Paperwork
1. Gather Your Documents
Proof of Birth: You must provide proof of birth. If you were born in Australia this will be your birth certificate. You can obtain your birth certificate from the Registrar of Births Deaths & Marriages in the state you were born. If you were born overseas, you must provide either your original birth certificate (translated into English if necessary) or an overseas passport.
Previous Marriage: If you are divorced you must provide an original Certificate of Divorce, or if widowed an original Death Certificate (translated into English if necessary).
Photo ID: you will need to provide photo evidence of your identity.
2. Notice of Intended Marriage (Form 13)
As a legal requirement, you must complete the Notice of Intended Marriage and lodge it with me at least one month and one day prior to the date of your marriage.
You can also download the form from:
http://www.ag.gov.au/www/agd/agd.nsf/Page/MarriageGetting_Married
3. Booking from Interstate or Overseas
If you are coming from interstate or overseas to marry in Hobart, the process is similar. Simply print and complete the Notice of Intended Marriage and have your signature/s witnessed (refer to the list of authorized persons on page 4). Once you have completed and signed the Notice, you can email or fax a copy in the first instance. The original MUST also be forwarded as soon as possible.
4. Immigration
If necessary I will provide a formal letter for you to submit to Immigration stating that you have a booking to be married and that you have completed and lodged the Notice of Intended Marriage.
